Abstract

The ChiCD is intended as a modern alternative to standard textbooks for high school students. It can also be very useful in preparing for exams at a university.

The ChiCD treats the following subjects as required by national curriculum:

The ChiCD includes the subject matter of Swiss high schools. It is arranged into:

• The table of contents
• 13 chapters of subjects
  
  • The world of particles - Mixtures, pure substances, separation methods, Dalton’s model, the states of matter, gas laws
  • The atomic structure - Mendeljev’s periodic table, nuclear reactions, radioactivity, nuclear fission, Bohr’s atomic model, orbital model, electronconfiguration, valence electrons.
  • The bond theory - the covalent bond, electronegativity, geometry of molecules, dipoles, the ionic bond, the metal bond, interparticular forces.
  • The elements - The alkaline metals, the alkaline earth metals, the noble gases, the halogens, the chalkogens, the elements nitrogen and phosphor, the elements carbon and silicon, the transition metals.
  • The salts in aqueous solutions - The ionic lattice, the process of hydration, complexes, ligands, chelating ligands, ligand exchange reactions, insoluble salts, the solubility product, the method of ebullioscopy, the method of cryoscopy.
  • The chemical reaction - The stoichiometry, kinetics, thermodynamics, the chemical equilibrium, the law of mass action, the principles of  Le Châtelier, the ammonia synthesis, the halogen lamp, ozone problems.
  • Acids and bases - The Brönsted theory, indicators, the strength of an acid, the calculation of pH, buffer solutions, neutralisations.
  • Redox reactions - The oxidaton state, the potential of reduction, galvanic elements, accumulators, the glavanising process, the eloxidising process, electrolysis.
  • Organic Chemicals - Petrochemical, nomenclature of hydrocarbons, chirality, functional groups, simple organic reactions, lipids, soaps, plastics, carbohydrates, peptides.
  • Dyes and colors - Emission colors, absorption colors, chromophores, dyeing, food dyes.
  • Analytical Chemistry - UV / VIS spectroscopy, the law of Lambert-Beer, IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry.
  • Vitamins - Water soluble vitamins, fat-soluble vitamins, deposits, daily needs, physiological significance.
  • Metabolism - Energy budget of an organism, citric acid cycle, urea cycle, glycolysis, fat loss.
